I chose to read this book for a few reasons:
1. It was available right away at the library.
2. It was poetry and not too long.

Basically, I knew I could get through it in a day or so.  Well, I did get through it.  Then I got through it again and again.  I am not a poet and if I'm honest, it has never been my favorite genre.  This book has easily given me a reason to give it another go.  Nikki Grimes uses a method of poetry called the "Golden Shovel."  She takes a phrase or entire poem and uses the words from that poem as the last word of each line of her poetry.  Obviously she is better at writing it than I am at explaining it.  Nonetheless, I was in awe of the artistry and brilliance of each poem.  This is definitely a book that I'll return to the library and then buy from the nearest bookstore.  I want it on my shelf and I can think of a few kids who would like it on theirs.
